Outline

Lean Launchpad Program (LLP), a full-scale business creation workshop for developing and incubating new businesses as a team, will be held approximately two months starting from the end of May 2025. Please join a briefing session for the program in February if you are interested in starting a business, business creation, entrepreneurship, and leadership, etc.

■Lean Launchpad Program (LLP) was proposed by Steve Blank, a serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, USA, and has already been adopted by many Silicon Valley startups and many large companies, including Japanese companies. In addition, it is offered at many universities in the United States, including Stanford University, as a training program for developing entrepreneurship/leadership. Our university has been offering this program since 2014, and recently it started to be offered at Osaka University, Waseda University, Kinki University, and others. An event is also held where the best team from each university gather to select the best team of the year. The best team selected from this program can also participate in that event. (It was held in Kyoto in 2024.)

■The workshop will be facilitated by lecturers from outside the university who are knowledgeable about business creation and startup investment.

■Any Science Tokyo student may participate. It is especially suitable for the following students:
-Those who are thinking about participating in a business competition or raising funds in the future
-Those who do not have a clear “business” idea but are interested in starting a business
-Those who are interested in working for a company in the future
-Those who are interested in creating new value
-Those who are interested in leadership/entrepreneurship

■This program will be offered as one of the ToTAL courses (entrepreneurship course). Graduate students (master’s/doctoral) can earn credits (2 credits) and GAs by taking the ToTAL course (entrepreneurship course) of “(Master’s/Doctoral) Practical Group Work for Leadership I/II (S)”. For undergraduate students who enrolled in 2024 can earn credits (2 credits) by taking the entrepreneurship course of “Bachelor’s Practical Group Work for Value Creation A”. Please note that you can participate in this program regardless of whether you are taking the course or not.

■During the briefing session, we will explain the outline of the program including the schedule, preparations for participation, and course registration.

◆In this program, you will clarify the value of the products and services you offer and identify the customers who will buy them. This process is not just about “starting a business” but also the basis of “entrepreneurship“, which may be the mindset for working as a business person or a researcher. Even if you are not interested in “starting a business,” it is worthwhile to participate in the program.

◆Please note that advanced preparation is required to participate in this program. Proposing a “business idea” is one of the preparations. To understand the mindset and method for creating such idea, it is strongly recommended that you participate in a 1-day workshop of “IdeaThon” on January 25, 2025 to get training on how to create a business idea.
