At ToTAL, we are happy to announce that we are supporting the following face-to-face event which is to be held next month before the “Sea Day” holiday in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A documentary movie “Newtok”, released in 2021 by Patagonia, an outdoor apparel and gear brand, will be screened followed by a casual discussion on the film. Newtok is an Alaskan village of the native Yup’ik people close to the Bering Sea. Rising sea levels and permafrost melt-off are quickly swallowing their home village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), weather emergencies have forced around 21.5 million people (“climate refugees”) a year to move since 2010, and scientists say that by 2060, there could be about 1.4 billion climate refugees forced to leave their homes caused by changing weather patterns and rising sea levels. We hope it will be worthwhile to think and discuss about this topic before “Sea Day”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
