On Thursday, January 22, ToTAL held an event in collaboration with Dr. Sasipa Boonyubol of School of Environment and Society/GSEP, to hold a free screening of a documentary film Kiss the Ground followed by a casual discussion.

Kiss the Ground shows viewers how regenerative agriculture and the restoration of the world’s soils can help reverse climate change and ensure a sustainable future. Instead of conventional agricultural practices, the film advocates the use of techniques such as no-till farming, cover cropping, and holistic grazing to improve soil health. These practices reduce chemical inputs and allow the soil microbiome to thrive, which may lead to the restoration of lost ecosystems, the creation of abundant food supplies, and increased carbon sequestration.
Following the screening of the film, participants were divided into four groups and discussed on the following points:
-Why the name “Kiss the Ground”?
-What are the key messages of the film?
-What claims felt convincing?
-What are some challenges to sourcing more regenerative food?
-What are some of the issues we should be aware of before going to a grocery store or restaurant?
-How can we promote the ideas that were brought up in the film in our community?
-What kinds of models can we put into action to help build community and the demand for regenerative food?
-What can brands that are not related to agriculture do to become more regenerative?
…and more.
To conclude the event, each group gave a presentation on their discussion points.
We hope that new insights discovered and shared during this event will lead to greater awareness about regenerative agriculture and inspire action to address environmental issues and climate change challenges through leadership and entrepreneurship.
