Overview

This course is an orientation to leadership fundamentals, covering self-awareness, learning how to learn, communication, consensus building, and idea generation. Participants will explore their own leadership styles through discussions with people of various ages and fields.

Past participants will join as TAs, supporting those new to group work and ensuring an engaging learning environment.

  1. Session 1: Foundations of Leadership – Dialogue and Collaboration
    • Activity 1: Group Problem-Solving Game
      • Participants work together to solve challenges while building relationships.
    • Activity 2: Active Book Dialogue on Leadership
      • A discussion-based workshop using books to explore various leadership perspectives.
  2. Session 2: Deepening Self-Awareness
    • Activity 1: Life Reflection & Peer Interviews
      • Reflect on personal experiences and incorporate insights from others through interviews.
    • Activity 2: Values Sorting
      • Organize and discuss personal values to broaden perspectives.
  3. Session 3: Expanding Idea Generation

      • Explore diverse idea-generation techniques and experience creative thinking.

Facilitator

Kenshu Kamura
Representative Director of NPO “Ba to Tsunagari Lab home’s vi.”

Kenshu has conducted extensive research and practice in transforming conflicts and social constraints into opportunities for positive change. His interdisciplinary research covers conflict resolution, psychology, neuroscience, and indigenous teachings. He has led over 100 workshops annually, focusing on community development, education, and organizational innovation.

In 2015, he took a year-long sabbatical to travel the world, where he encountered the concept of “Teal Organizations.” This inspired him to establish ORG LAB (Ogurabo), a community dedicated to the evolution of organizations and society through experiential learning.

Yuri Matsuzaki, Ph.D.
Specially Appointed Associate Professor, Academy for Leadership, Institute of Science Tokyo

Dr. Matsuzaki specializes in bioinformatics and systems biology, fields that bridge multiple scientific disciplines. Her research includes simulating signal transduction in prokaryotic cells and predicting large-scale protein interactions.

Since 2014, she has been engaged in education at the Institute of Science Tokyo, first as a specially appointed assistant professor and lecturer in the Doctoral Leading Program, Academy for Computational Life Sciences (ACLS). Since 2018, she has been a faculty member in the Tokyo Tech Academy for Leadership (ToTAL). Her work focuses on developing leadership programs to help students take ownership of their doctoral research.
