It would be an informative opportunity that you can discuss real time issues with active bureaucrats of METI by engaging in simulating policy making process in a frame of macro view points as national policy making.

This workshop will be offered as a part of “Recognition of Social Issues Workshop II”, a ToTAL regular course, and ToTAL/OPEN program. We are expecting to have many applications from not only ToTAL students but also any of non-ToTAL students (both of graduates and undergraduates) from Tokyo Tech and other universities.

(You may apply to this workshop from METI website also (https://www.meti.go.jp/information/recruit/event/simulation.html).

Please note that the language to be used in the workshop will be Japanese.

Theme of this year:

Promotion of industry-academia collaboration -To connect Japan’s technology to national wealth-

<Message from facilitator>

Japan has neither food nor energy. As spending is increasing due to the declining birth rate and the aging of the population, Japan has no choice but to earn with technology to take over this rich life to future generations.

However, although Japan should have a high level of technology, even though it receives the Nobel Prize, it has not been able to easily innovate. One of the reasons is that industry-academia collaboration is not in progress. In fact, Japanese companies do joint research with overseas universities, not with Japanese universities.
In this session, under the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry staff who has promoted industrial-academia collaboration, we ask you to experience policy making for promoting industry-academia collaboration, and deepen your understanding of the policies actually conducted by the government.
