Introduction

Let’s experience the “design thinking” methodology which can be called the global standard for creating innovation by learning its process. Even if you know the term “design thinking”, this is the perfect workshop to experience it for the first time and learn how to actually put it into practice. This event is planned to be part of the content of Entrepreneurship Course “Group Work for Value Creation A (ENT.V201)” for bachelor’s students scheduled to be offered in 1-2Q in the next academic year (AY 2025). Therefore, if the participants of this event take the course in AY 2025, attendance to this event will be considered as part of the requirements for passing the course.

In this workshop, you can learn the fundamentals of design thinking by experiencing its process in three lectures. The goal of the event is to learn the “human-centered” approach to problem-solving by identifying issues by empathizing with others, defining issues through detailed analysis, coming up with solutions and conceptualizing them, and repeating speedy tests.

Please also refer to the comments below from those who took the course last year if you are considering to participate.

Comments from last year’s event participants

  • I think one of the most interesting parts of design thinking is prototyping, and this is a great workshop where you can experience prototyping in just five hours! (M1)
  • This is a chance to learn about “design thinking,” which is also used in business. (M1)
  • It’s exciting and fun because you’re working in teams with people of completely different nationalities and grades. It helps you develop group work skills! (M1)
  • Unleash your potential as a beginner in design thinking workshop. You will be amazed to see your own strengths and weakness. Plus you will be able to create opportunities from a problem statement. (M1)
  • This is a good class for beginners to learn design thinking. (M1)
  • I would advise every student at Tokyo Tech to take this workshop because the content and processes go beyond just product design. They can be applied in our daily lives and in every other aspect of life. Interestingly, you get to practice and develop a lot of skills, including but not limited to teamwork, critical thinking, communicating (listening and speaking), creativity, problem-solving, and empathy. (M2)
