Build essential communication skills every researcher needs

Overview
This peer-teaching workshop is proposed by international students from ToTAL and led by students. Faculty members provide guidance as needed while ensuring smooth facilitation.
To achieve this objective, workshops will be conducted in a presentation format at Ookayama and in a debate format at Suzukakedai. Students can attend the workshop at either campus or both campuses.
Through this course, students will gain practical skills in explaining ideas logically and clearly, essential for job hunting (entry sheets, group discussions, interviews) and academic presentations.

Main Content
(Ookayama) Participants will use hands-on exercises to learn how to communicate their research clearly to people from different academic fields. In the first session, they will learn that research can be understood at different levels depending on the audience. They will then learn and practice organizing their thoughts and expressing them clearly, making underlying assumptions clear so everyone shares a similar level of understanding, and structuring explanations in a way that is easy to follow. By the end of the three sessions, participants will be able to communicate their research so that it is understandable to people with varying levels of prior knowledge.
(Suzukakedai) Participants will learn about argumentation techniques commonly used in debate, such as AREA, the Toulmin Model, and critical thinking. Based on these methods, they will also take part in practical debate activities with a game-based format. By the end of the three sessions, participants will be able to express their opiniions logically and effectively in discussion settings.
