< About Future Foresight>

  • This workshop will be the 7th workshop since 2013. Although the workshop was originally offered by Academy for Global Leadership(AGL) Tokyo Tech, the workshop is being offered by ToTAL since last year.
  • “Future Foresight” has been gathering a lot of attention as the promising methodology for generating “INNOVATIONS” together with “Design Thinking”. “Future Foresight” is a methodology by putting priority on “BACKCAST” type of approach by considering paths and/or scenario after considering several future possibilities, which may be different from “FORECAST”. During the workshop, you will design future of 10-15 years later by putting priority on future insights with “SCANNING” and “FORCED IDEA GENERATION” methods.
  • In this workshop, we will consider and study what society and people would be like in 10 years, without any bias. The theme of this year is “Future of EKI (stations)”. Since railway service was initiated, function of stations has progressed; from handling arriving/departing trains and sales and checking of tickets, to providing infrastructure for shops, providing social services including housework and parenting support, and disaster prevention. On the other hand, it is said that local governments are facing difficulties to maintain existing social systems and infrastructures due to population decline and aging. In addition, a new transportation system, Maas (Mobility as a service), is being considered especially for visitors from overseas (“inbounds”) and aged people who return their driving licenses. By paying attentions to various signs of changing environments around “EKI (stations)”, let’s design the “Future of EKI (stations)” from the viewpoint of re-defining EKI (stations).
  • Any students who have no experiences about workshop are welcome. If you have some experiences in “Design Thinking” and/or “Systems Thinking”, the approach taken in Future Foresight may be different from that. Therefore, this experience will result in building new skills.
